AviationCalc provides educational calculations only. Results are not certified for operational flight planning or aircraft performance decisions. Always consult approved aircraft documentation and official aviation information before flight operations.

Educational purpose
Everything on AviationCalc, including the calculators, formulas, worked examples, diagrams and guides, is published to help people understand the mathematics of flight. It is general educational information. It is not flight instruction, operational guidance, engineering advice or professional advice of any kind.
Not an approved flight-planning tool
AviationCalc is not an approved flight-planning system, a certified flight computer, an electronic flight bag or avionics, and it has not been reviewed, approved or certified by any aviation authority. It must not be used as a substitute for:
- the aircraft flight manual or pilot’s operating handbook, including its performance charts and limitations;
- current official aeronautical charts and publications;
- current official weather information and notices;
- the regulations and operator procedures that apply to a flight;
- instruction from an appropriately qualified instructor.
What the calculators do not do
- They do not contain performance data for any aircraft. Any aircraft-specific value is one you enter.
- They do not recommend or apply fuel reserves, and they do not state how much fuel a flight requires.
- They do not give takeoff, landing, weight-and-balance or dispatch recommendations.
- They do not compare a result with a crosswind, tailwind, structural or any other limit.
- They do not use live weather, current magnetic variation or current chart data.
Accuracy
We test the calculators carefully, as described on the Calculation Methodology page, but we do not guarantee that the site is free of errors, complete or current. The formulas are simplified models: the real atmosphere differs from the standard atmosphere, real fuel flow and airspeed vary through a flight, and rounding affects displayed values. You are responsible for checking any result before relying on it for any purpose.
References to other organizations
The site cites publications from organizations such as the FAA, NASA, NIST, NOAA and ICAO as sources for formulas and definitions. Those citations do not mean that any of these organizations has reviewed, endorsed, approved or certified AviationCalc. Links to external websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.
